ABOUT
Hi everybody. I’m a singer/guitarist/songwriter. I’ve been playing the Maryland, DC, Virginia area since I was a teenager and currently play about 70 shows a year. I perform solo and also with my good friend Eric Wolf (lead guitar) in the Mike Mead & Eric Wolf Duo. My biggest inspirations come from the 70’s era of music from artists like Elton John to Kiss to Led Zeppelin. I began gigging locally when I was 16 years old and played in many projects before becoming the front man of Frankie and the Actions with my good friend Frankie Clarke. My journey with music through the years has taken me so many places with great memories and meeting new people.
Currently, I’m doing my regular solo acoustic show. In addition to that, Eric Wolf (lead guitar) and I perform regularly as Mike Mead/Eric Wolf Duo.
Currently, I am looking to fill the drummer spot in the MIKE MEAD BAND !

Hello anyone who cares !
Regarding my health:
I was scheduled to have spinal surgery Monday, September 23rd. Short recap: DIDN’T HAPPEN.
I’m keeping this is as short as I can. Through the “we love Mike” network (I love you Sandy Berry for coming up with that one) I was able to get in to see a new cardiologist today. They took my vitals and looked at all the test results from the first cardiologist (in fucking Rockville, don’t ask, just driving there was a stress test) and yes they agree with all the findings. A lifetime of bar food, chicken tenders, beer, rock and roll, whiskey, weed, a few other things that can go unmentioned and happiness causes plaque and calcium deposits in the front chamber of your heart. Of course my sober journey from alcohol was a good move (20 months alcohol free)
But they feel and my surgeon’s team already felt, that I’m okay to have this spinal surgery now, and deal with the heart issue when I’m healed up from that. It’s been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride for me and so many of you are reaching out and sending love and prayers and recommendations. My dearest friends, Gene and Sandy Berry reached out and it got me an appointment right away. Thanks guys.
So now the clearance letter is being faxed over tomorrow to my neurosurgery people and then the scheduling of the new surgery date should happen shortly thereafter and then, shit, I’m tired of typing lol.
Kidding, then just do the pre op checklist and stare modern medicine in the eye. Whatcha got ? To look at me and see my posts, you might not think I’m in pain all the time. I am. But so are a lot of folks. I don’t post all this on Facebook because I don’t presume everyone wants to know. I’ll just post that I’ve updated the website. That way it’s up to you if you want to take a moment to read it.
I’m certainly going to slow the pace of performing live. But definitely not stopping. when my spine and heart are good to go, I’ll resume a reasonable schedule.
I remember once when Frankie And The Actions was coming out to do a few shows a year. Not everyone knew how sick Frankie was. I knew. Anyway, a fan had missed one of our last shows and posted “sorry, I’ll catch the next one”.
Sadly, there was no next one.
That is just a reminder to NOT put things off that you really want to do. Don’t procrastinate on visiting a friend.
Anyway, I’m finding out a lot of shit about my innards. I’m changing my diet and keeping up with my exercise program'.
I’m keeping the music calendar clear until I get my shit straight. Right now there’s a few shows left for 2024.
In other news, work begins on my next song, THE MESS. It’s a ballad about life, love, longing, regret, acceptance. The softer side of Mike ha ha.
The search for a permanent drummer for the MIKE MEAD BAND continues but obviously with a bit of a delay thrown in there.
I will update this again sometime in October
